You’re the 1, Goldilocks!

When I was a kid, Daddy would always travel to Manila (from Davao) for business trips. Some trips would be as short as 1 day, some would last a week. But everytime he’d go home, he would bring pasalubong. Most of those trips, he would bring home a Goldilocks Roll. Sometimes there would be a box of Polvoron or packs of Popcorn. You see, there aren’t any Goldilocks branches here in Davao. Not until a few years ago.

Even just looking at a Goldilocks’ display case brings me to those days when we’d wait for Daddy to arrive at the gate, lugging around his suitcase, and a Goldilocks bag. We’d never know what he’d bring, but there’d always be some Goldilocks. Sometimes it would be a Chocolate Roll, other times, Ube. I’m sure there were other flavors, but these two are the ones I distinctly remember.

Sometimes we’d also have some Plain Caramel Popcorn or Plain Polvoron. Then there would be times when we’d be treated to (and fight over) the different Popcorn flavors. My favorite was strawberry. And the polvoron? My favorite up to this day is Pinipig Polvoron. And until today, I think no other polvoron can beat the taste of Goldilocks’ Polvoron. The taste, the texture… it always gives me sooo much joy to eat some. I can finish an entire box, actually.

A lot has happened since. I don’t live with my Mommy and Daddy anymore. They rarely bring me sweets for pasalubong anymore. I have tasted a lot of cakes. I can even bake some of my own but there’s nothing like seeing a Goldilocks Roll that brings backs very good childhood memories. Those were much more simpler times, times when a simple roll, popcorn, or polvoron would make me light up.

Those times, none of us were too busy to gather in the living room to wait for Daddy to arrive. None of us had other things to do, other than gather together and await the pasalubong Daddy has brought is. Times were simpler back then. And there’s nothing like a Goldilocks treat that can bring me back to those days. You’re the 1 Goldilocks, because you have brought so much simple joys to my childhood, joys that will forever be with me.
