Baking and Selling Extra Chewy Cookies

I have never baked cookies before we baked them for class. On Day 5 my group was assigned to bake Choco Chip Cookies, and during our extra class on white chocolates, we we assigned to make White Chocolate Macadamia Cookies.

After both classes, I brought some cookies for my colleagues at the poker room to try out. And everybody loved it. I also baked a batch for Kuya Andrew who loves chewy cookies. Kuya and the rest of our friends who tried it loved it too.

People have been bugging me to bake more so they could buy some, so I decided to make a small business out of it. Last week, I started baking Choco Chip Cookies (5 batches) and White Choco Macadamia Cookies (1 batch) which I sold to my cousins and friends at the poker room for a small profit. I done it for two weeks straight and it was been rewarding.

More than the small (almost negligible) profit I make, I love hearing people fight over the cookies, eagerly reserve for the next batch, and rave about how they enjoyed what I bake. Even if baking (especially buying the ingredients) is so much hassle, I enjoy doing it because well, I like the people I am baking for. :)

I love hearing how somebody ate an entire pack to himself, or how my friends ate cookies for breakfast. It’s also challenging for me to hear comments and suggestions for the next batch of cookies.

So far I have made and sold a total of 9 batches of Choco Chip Cookies, 1 batch of White Choco Macadamia Cookies, 1 batch of Oatmeal Raisin Cookies, and mini-batches of Special Choco Mint Chip Cookies and Choco Chip Cookies without Nuts. Yes, I do special requests and orders. :) But to keep things simple, all my cookies are chewy (as opposed to crispy).

While baking cookies I keep these in mind:

  • Do not overbeat.
  • Use glucose (which is cheaper than corn syrup) as a sugar substitute to make the cookies extra chewy.
  • Always beat and mix well, especially after the chocolates, nuts, or oatmeal has been added.
  • Let the cookies cool and dry a bit before packaging.
  • Pick and store the ingredients well. Make sure the eggs are fresh.

I am looking forward to baking more cookies and I want to try out making some Choco Peanut Butter Cookies, Mocha Cookies, and Mixed Nuts Cookies. YUM! If you have any ideas for cookie varieties, feel free to request. :)

If you want to order some extra chewy cookies, comment here and leave your contact information. Limited to Davao residents only. :)

For next week, I will take a rest from baking cookies and work on Eclairs, Cream Puffs, and Brownies.
