The Davao Food Appreciation Tour 2010 kicked off on April 30, 2010 with snacks at Mam Bebs Bakeshop and Refreshment Parlor. Mam Bebs is currently owned and managed by my cousin, Andrew dela Serna. Our family, starting with our Lolo has been with the food service industry for decades.
Our Lolo used to have a restaurant / steak house and a bakery. The restaurant was named “Blowout” while the bakery was named “La Suerte.” Blowout didn’t survive but La Suerte was handed down and managed by 6 of Lolo’s children. When it was handed over to Kuya Andrew, the bakery was renamed Mam Bebs. Why Mam Bebs? Because that’s what the bakers and sales ladies call our aunt, Tita Baby.
After management changes and having existed for several decades, Mam Bebs still serves meals and pastries that are consistently good with homemade quality.
During DFAT Mam Bebs served their famous Pancit Palabok and Pork and Chicken Siopao. Our Pancit Palabok is one of the favorites of our local bloggers and it has been a staple in our events where Mam Bebs is the caterer or sponsor. It is made of thin rice noodles, our special palabok sauce, ground pork, and topped with chicharon, smoked boneless, bangus, and hard-boiled eggs. A delicious Filipino dish treat.
Mam Bebs also served their yummy savory siopao which has a soft bun filled with tasty pork or chicken filling. Both the pancit and the siopao won the hearts of the participants as they gobbled up as many as they can.
Of course Mam Bebs served two of their best-sellers: Mango Squares and Potato Rolls. Not only are these very yummy, but also unique as these two pastries are made with our family’s recipes that have been used by our aunts for many years. The participants were happy to eat these and excited to bring home some of these goodies.
Definitely, Mam Bebs is one of the longest enduring bakeries in Davao City for a good reason. Delicious food and pastries that are prepared with homemade quality. I am proud to be one of this bakery’s bakers and carrying on the long tradition of quality food service by our family.
