Unagi-Don

Tadakuma's Unagi Don

Here’s one of my favorite Japanese dishes: Unagi-Don! It is also called a Kabayaki-Don.

Unagi is the Japanese word for freshwater eel. Kabayaki is a Japanese method of cooking seafoods. To make kabayaki, the seafood, usually a fish, is filleted and boned. It is dipped or marinated in a soy sauce based sauce. Then, it is broiled on a grill. Generally, people use the term kabayaki for cooking the freshwater eel. The “Don” in the dish’s name means rice or served with rice.

Eel is also yummy as sushi or in a maki, but the Unagi-Don is my favorite because it is a fuss-free, tasty fish dish that is salty and sweet at the same time. Absolutely delish!

One of the places I go to here in Davao for good Unagi-Don is Tadakuma Japanese Restaurant.

Tadakuma Japanese Restaurant has two branches: along Jacinto Extension, Davao City and at the Damosa Business Center, Mamay Road, Lanang, Davao City. You may reach them at +6382-2348813.

Looks yummy! You can actually find this food in almost every restaurant in Japan. I don’t know why Japanese people love eel but they say this dish is a must try.
