Panagatan Seafoods Restaurant

Nothing like deliciously cooked fresh seafood to make me happy.

Grilled Seafood Platter

Grilled Seafood Platter

I had the pleasure of dining at one of Mindanao’s dining gems, Panagatan Seafoods Restaurant in Opol, Misamis Oriental during a roadtrip to Iligan City from Cagayan de Oro City. When I was told we’d be eating at a restaurant along the way, I had expected a small quaint restaurant with a few dishes on the menu to served to weary travelers. I certainly did not expect a humongous seaside restaurant that served a selection of fresh seafoods which can be cooked according to the diners’ preference. I was in heaven.

Arpochi’s Sweet and Spicy Crabs

Arpochi's Sweet and Spicy Crabs

Arpochi’s Sweet and Spicy Crabs

I absolutely love crabs. (Among other things.) So when I was invited to eat at Arpochi here in Davao, I didn’t hesitate. And I don’t regret it even if I overate.

The first branch of Arpochi is in Marbel, South Cotabato. They also have a branch in General Santos City. And just last year, they extended their seafood expertise to Davao City. Arpochi has a very bare but very delicious menu with only a few items, but all of them prepared first hand by the family that owns and manages the restaurant. All three branches are owned by family members of the original branch. So you are sure to get the same taste and quality at every branch.

When we ate at the Davao branch, I was overwhelmed by the huge crabs they served us. It was prepared with their signature Sweet and Spicy recipe. And it didn’t disappoint at all. The crab was perfectly cooked, the meat was not dry or soggy. It was juicy and sweet, seasoned with a lot of pepper and garlic, drenched in an unforgettable sweet sauce. Not too sweet though.

I rarely touch the food I eat but I happily ate with my hands while eating at Arpochi’s The crabs and the sauce were too tempting so I ate more than my share. 😉

Arpochi’s Sweet & Spicy Crabs is a delight for all seafood aficionados. They also serve prawns, chicken, squid and other dishes but people flock to Arpochi’s for the crabs. So you must absolutely try Arpochi’s Sweet & Spicy Crabs when you’re in Davao City.

The Apochi’s Davao Branch is located along Palma Gil Street, Obrero, Davao City. It might take a while to have your delicious crabs prepared so don’t hesitate to call them up to reserve seats and to order in advance. You may call them at +6382-3058246. They are open Mondays to Sundays from 10 am to 10 pm.

Sizzling Squid by Fiesta Sorpresa

Another favorite of mine at Fiesta Sorpresa is their Sizzling Squid. The squid is served with a sweet and salty sauce with a hint of sour and spicy. The meat is tender and the entire dish is served sizzling hot on a sizzling plate.

Just a warning though, the Sizzling Squid is best enjoyed with lots of rice. Or beer. It’s great as a viand and as a beer match.

When you’re in Digos and craving for a great meal or wanting to chill with a bottle of beer, drop by Fiesta Sorpresa and try their Sizzling Squid.

Fiesta Sorpresa is located at Rizal Avenue, Barangay San Jose, Digos City, Davao del Sur. It is beside Hotel Crisabelle. They are open from 11 am – 2 pm and from 5 pm – 10 pm. For more information, like their page at this link.

Sarangani Bay

Sarangani Bay Beach

Sarangani Bay Beach

One of the places I love going to is the Socsksargen Region. Socsksargen stands for South Cotabato, Sultan Kudarat, Sarangani, and General Santos City. I love the place because of the friendly and accommodating people, the hidden secret getaway places, and the yummy food composed mostly of fresh seafood.

The area is known for their fish produce and other seafood products and one of the companies that call it their home is Sarangani Bay. Sarangay Bay is a food company that produces, processes, and packs seafood, primarily milkfish or bangus. Our family has been buying their products for years since their produce is always clean, fresh, and great tasting.

Sarangani Bay process fish from the bay from which the company it was named from, Sarangani Bay. It is home to bangus, shrimps, and other seafood. In 2011, the pristine Sarangani Bay produced enough bangus fry and fingerlings has grown from these waters to supply over 50% of the country’s bangus needs.

Alsons Aquaculture Corporation, owner of Sarangani Bay (the company) is considered as the steward of Sarangani’s unspoiled coastline. Despite their successful seafood business, the waters in Sarangani Bay are kept ideal for growing and breeding bangus.

Find out more about Sarangani Bay (the company) at www.saranganibay.com.ph.

We do hope to see you in Sarangani Bay (the place) soon. It’s has a great unspoiled shoreline that is perfect for relaxation, even though it is also a good source of fresh, clean sustainable seafood.

Stuffed Grilled Bangus

Stuffed Grilled Milkfish by Pixie's Sinugba in Davao City

Stuffed Grilled Bangus

If you want unadulterated bangus (milkfish) at it’s best, the only way to have it is stuffed with tomatoes, onions, garlic, lemon grass, and other spices, then grilled to perfection. The spices is sure to add layers to flavor which is further enhanced by the smokey taste contributed by the grilling process.

Bangus is certainly a delicious fish to eat, but cumbersome. It has too many bones. So best to buy and eat it boneless.

Pixie’s Sinugba with branches in Davao City and Metro Manila, serves up delicious stuffed grilled boneless bangus that’s juicy, tasty, and hassle-free.
